The Sequentialist Dimension in the Art

Che
cosa c'è nell’opera sequenzialista che la differenzia
dalle altre «forme» artistiche oramai acquisite,
cioè quella referenziale-figurativa
e quella estetico-astratta, che costituiscono i due poli
dell'espressività e il cui valore
è legato al «risultato» realizzativo?
What is the difference between the sequentialist
artwork and the other acknowledged artistic «forms»,
that is the referential-figurative
and aesthetic-abstract style,
that constitute the two extremes of
expressivity, in which the expressive value
is linked to realising «result»?
È senz'altro facile, nelle opere sequenzialiste,
soffermarsi sull'apparenza degli elementi sequenziali
— frecce,
numeri, unità e successioni di ogni genere (figurative, formali
e cromatiche, materiche, concettuali, ecc.)
— i quali, interpretati in maniera referenziale-figurativa
o estetico-astratta, veicolano significati
a noi familiari. Queste infrastrutture
comunicative, però, già prima della fine del secolo
scorso (il XX secolo) hanno pienamente esaurito il loro cammino
evolutivo.
It's easy, in sequentialist artworks,
to consider the aesthetic appearance of the sequential elements
— arrows, numbers, units and sequences of all kinds (figurative,
formals and chromatics, materials, conceptuals, ecc.) —
which interpreted in referential-figurative
or aesthetic-abstract way, communicate significant values familiar
to us.
This communicative infrastructures,
however, even before the end of last century (the XX century) have
fully exhausted their evolutionary path.
È fondamentale prendere coscienza oggi di questa meta acquisita,
e oramai completamente sfruttata in tutte le sue potenzialità,
per volgere lo sguardo oltre l'ostacolo, verso la strada dell'evoluzione
linguistica che la nostra epoca, l'Era dell’Informazione, ci mostra.
It is vital nowadays to be aware of this acquired
goal, having already
completely exhausted its potential, and to look out to the linguistic
evolution that Information Technology Era can provide.
Qual'è allora questa «nuova via» che ci si apre
oggi dinnanzi, questa nuova frontiera da raggiungere? Sembrerebbe
logico rispondere il «digitale». Ma che cosa è
il digitale e in che modo partecipa all'evoluzione del processo
linguistico che stiamo prendendo in esame: quello dell'Arte.
What is this «new
way»
that it is opening in front of us, this new frontier to get to?
A logical answer it would be the «digital»
way. But what is the digital way, and how it takes part to the evolution
of the linguistic process we are examining: the Art expressive code?
Per essere più precisi, qual'è il «valore»
che il digitale possiede e che costituisce la svolta comunicativa
della nostra contemporaneità?
È senza dubbio l'evoluta componente spazio-temporale
dell'informazione, capace adesso di veicolare il contenuto attraverso
una pluridimensionalità prima impensabile.
Exactly, what is the peculiar
«value» of the digital way, that
characterizes the communicative turning-point in our contemporary
way of life?
It's really the evolute spatio-temporal
component of information, capable now to communicate the
content by a multidimensionality that it was inexistent few years
ago.
Non bisogna però fare l'errore di scambiare il guscio per
il nocciolo: il digitale è una nuova infrastruttura linguistica
(guscio) dell'effettivo nocciolo che è l'informazione, veicolo
del «nutrimento», cioè il contenuto.
È necessario quindi focalizzare la ricerca, artistica nel
caso specifico, non tanto sul risultato referenziale/estetico
significante che l'infrastruttura
digitale (il canale di comunicazione costituito da sequenze di 0
e 1) può produrre, ma sugli
ulteriori significati che la dimensione spazio-temporale
— l'informazione sequenziale —
è in grado di esprimere.
It's necessary to avoid of confusing the superficial
aspect with the main aspect: the
digital way is a new linguistic infrastructure (the superficial
aspect) of the main aspect that is the information, which
transmits the «spiritual
nourishment»,
that is the content.
It is necessary to focus the artistic research
not only on the significant referential/aesthetic
result that the digital infrastructure (the communication
channel formed by 0 and 1 sequences) can produce, but
on the further significances that the spatio-temporal dimension
— the sequential information —
is able to express.
Viene in tal modo rivelata e sfruttata la proprietà
comunicativa spazio-temporale del segno
che, mettendo in evidenza le sue componenti
sequenziali, riesce a veicolare le direzioni espressive
della sua realizzazione gestuale e della sua
fruizione visiva.
It's possible, now, to use the new spatio-temporal
communicative
property
of sign that, by focusing its sequential components,
it is able to communicate the expressive directions linked to its
gestual realisation and to its visual fruition.
Questi
percorsi realizzativi o direzioni sequenziali
espressive spazio-temporali, verso l'alto o il basso, in
avanti o all'indietro, in senso orario o antiorario, fluidi o spezzati,
queste variabili sequenziali, costituiscono — nelle loro infinite
combinazioni —
l'enorme bagaglio di valori significativi, ancora da esplorare,
che l'arte sequenzialista mette a disposizione della nostra
sensibilità.
These realising
paths or spatio-temporal expressive
sequential directions, to the top or to the bottom, to
the front or to the back, in a clockwise or counter-clockwise direction,
flowing or broken, these sequential variables, are - in their infinite
combinations - the big resource of significant values, today unexplored,
that sequentialist art reveals to our sensibility.
La
soglia da oltrepassare per raggiungere questa dimensione
spazio-temporale espressiva è racchiusa
in un percorso ideale che va dalla referenzialità
figurativa/immagine estetica significante
(il limite al quale è giunta la nostra epoca) all'informazione
spazio-temporale
significante (la possibilità
per oltrepassare questo limite).
L'opera sequenzialista procede lungo questa via, oggi appena
all'inizio, che porta in sé il valore più alto dell'Arte:
creare e rivelare nuove dimensioni inesplorate
della sensibilità miranti all'evoluzione della conoscenza
umana.
The threshold we must surpass to reach this
expressive spatio-temporal dimension,
is included in an ideal path starting with the significant
figurative referentiality/aesthetic image (the limit that
our era has reached), and ending with the significant spatio-temporal
information (the possibility to go beyond this limit).
The sequentialist artwork grows along
this way, today in the early stage, that contains in it the highest
Art value: create and reveal new unexplored
sensibility dimensions that contribute to evolution of the human
knowledge.
